Issued to mark the thousandth anniversary of the marriage of Count Siegfried of the Ardennes to Hedwig, which in 963 had secured the rocky promontory and fortress that became the nucleus of Luxembourg itself. The modern House of Nassau-Weilburg traces its dynastic continuity back through that transaction — though calling it a marriage rather than a strategic land acquisition slightly flatters the romance involved.
KM#113 was struck at the Utrecht Mint under contract, as Luxembourg has no mint of its own.
