Paraguay's guaraní was introduced in 1944 to replace the peso at a rate of 100 pesos per guaraní, named after the indigenous Guaraní people whose language remains co-official with Spanish — one of the few countries where a pre-colonial language holds genuine administrative parity. The denomination of 70 guaraníes has no organic place in everyday Paraguayan commerce and exists purely as a collector vehicle, the face value essentially ceremonial against the coin's silver content.
