The horse and rider are encircled by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars interspersed with twelve heraldic shields representing the historic provinces and lands of the Austrian realm. Beneath the horse, the spread-winged heraldic eagle of Austria is depicted, surmounted by a scroll bearing the date 1996, and a ribbon banner in the lower field carries the denomination legend 70 ECUS.
