Obverse description The quartered Gonzaga dynastic shield, surmounted by a ducal crown, is displayed prominently at center within a plain inner circle. The complex heraldic arms incorporate the characteristic quarterings of the Gonzaga family, including the Montferrat and Mantua divisions. The surrounding circular legend, rendered in Roman capitals, reads the ruler's full titulature. The hammered flan imparts a characteristic irregular outline to the coin's edge.

The numeral '7', denoting the coin's value in soldi, appears below the sun within the inner circle. The surrounding legend NON MVTVATA LVCE ('unchanged in light'), a Gonzaga dynastic device, runs along the outer field in Roman capitals, punctuated by pellets.
