Reverse description The crowned arms of the Dutch Generality — a shield bearing the rampant lion of the Netherlands — occupy the central field, flanked on either side by the denomination numeral 7 to the left and the abbreviation G (for Gulden) to the right. The year of issue appears at the top of the coin, above the crown. The surrounding circular legend, rendered in capital Latin letters, reads CONCORDIA • RES • PARVAE • CRESCUNT, the famous motto meaning 'By concord small things grow,' a hallmark device of the Dutch Republic's coinage.
