| Obverse description | A fully armored knight on a charging horse galloping to right, brandishing an unsheathed sword aloft in the right hand; below the horse, a crowned shield bearing the quartered provincial arms of Groningen and the Ommelanden. The privy mark (tree) appears at the commencement of the peripheral legend. The design is executed in high relief typical of Dutch provincial gold coinage of the period. |
