| Obverse description | At center, a stylized depiction of a traditional Turkish oil wrestler (pehlivan) in a characteristic crouching stance, rendered in a bold, modernist design within a circular inner border. A rectangular cartouche below the figure bears the inscription 'Baspehlivan' in script lettering. The circular legend 'TÜRKIYE CUMHURIYETI' arcs across the upper field, with the denomination '7.500.000 LIRA' and date '2001' inscribed along the lower periphery. Two small crescent-and-star devices flank the design at mid-left and mid-right within the border. |

| Additional information |
Koca Yusuf was an Ottoman wrestler who emigrated to the United States in the 1890s and became one of the most celebrated strongmen of the Gilded Age, defeating American champion Evan Lewis in 1898. This 2001 issue belongs to Turkey's long-running commemorative wrestling series, which the Darphane launched to document the country's deep tradition of Greco-Roman and oil wrestling at a moment when the sport was being aggressively promoted for international audiences ahead of Turkey's Olympic ambitions.
Yusuf died in 1914 aboard a ship crossing the Atlantic, reportedly during a storm.
