Obverse description Conjoined laureate and draped busts of Queen Maria I and King Peter III facing right, rendered in high relief in the Portuguese Baroque style. Maria I, positioned prominently to the left, wears an elaborate laurel wreath and ornate floral drapery, while Peter III appears behind her to the right in a plain draped bust. A circular gold plug is visible in the field to the left of the effigies, the result of the plugging process applied to repair the hole cut for the countermark. The Latin legend MARIA·I·ET·PETRUS·III·D·G·PORT·ET·ALG·REGES encircles the busts, with the date partially visible at the base.
