Additional information

The Europa series was launched by France in 1995 as part of a coordinated European numismatic program, with participating nations each issuing gold pieces denominated in a common "ECU" or, later, a transitional Europa unit ahead of the euro's physical introduction. The 65.5957 Francs denomination was not arbitrary — it was the official fixed conversion rate between the French franc and the euro established on 1 January 1999, locked irrevocably by the European Council, making the face value itself a timestamp of monetary union.

KM#1260 and KM#1266 represent two distinct annual issues within the same type, distinguishable by date alone.
