Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Pedro I facing left, with curly hair bound by a laurel wreath and a ribbon tie at the nape, rendered in a neoclassical style engraved by Zeferino Ferrez. The effigy is set within a plain field, bordered by a finely toothed inner rim. The Latin legend curves around the upper periphery reading PETRUS I D G BRASILIAE IMPERATOR, while the date 1822 and the Rio de Janeiro mint mark R appear in the lower exergue area flanked by small ornamental stops.
