| Reverse description | The Portuguese royal coat of arms, elaborately rendered in the Baroque style, occupies the central field. The shield displays the traditional quinas (five escutcheons charged with bezants) at the center, surrounded by the castle bordure of Castile, all set within an ornate cartouche. The arms are flanked by large, asymmetrical acanthus-leaf scrollwork and supported by elaborate foliate mantling. A royal crown surmounts the shield at the top. The reverse field is devoid of a peripheral legend, with the motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES appearing on the edge or as recorded in catalog references rather than on the visible face. |
