| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King João VI facing right, with curled hair and an elaborate laurel wreath, the portrait rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style. The king is shown in regal court attire with a draped mantle visible at the truncation. The circumferential legend reads JOANNES·VI·D·G·PORT·BRAS·ET·ALG·REX·, identifying the monarch as King of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves. The date and Rio de Janeiro mint mark (R) appear in the lower exergual area beneath the bust. |

| Reverse description | The Portuguese royal arms displayed on an ornate, crowned escutcheon at centre, featuring the traditional quinas (five inescutcheons arranged in a cross) and the bordure of castles, all set within a large oval shield. The shield is surmounted by an elaborate open royal crown with scrollwork. The entire composition is encircled by a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a decorative floral motif, with no peripheral legend, the design filling the field in a bold and formal heraldic style. |
