| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style. The effigy displays elaborate flowing hair with curled locks falling to the shoulder, surmounted by a laurel wreath. The circumferential Latin legend reads IOANNES. V. D. G. PORT. ET. ALG. REX., interrupted by the bust. Below the portrait, the mintmark M appears flanked by dots above the date, which is struck in the lower field. |

| Reverse description | The full Portuguese royal coat of arms, intricately engraved in the Baroque manner, occupies the central field. The escutcheon displays the traditional quinas arrangement of five blue shields bearing silver bezants, bordered by seven castles on a red field. The shield is set upon an elaborate cartouche with foliate and scroll ornamentation extending to both sides. Surmounting the arms is the Portuguese royal crown, rendered in fine detail with arched bands and jewelled circlet. The reverse field is otherwise plain, with no circumferential legend. |
