Obverse description Central field displays the large denomination numeral '640' in bold Roman figures, enclosed within an open laurel and floral wreath tied at the base. Four quatrefoil ornaments are positioned at the cardinal points within the wreath. The peripheral legend reads PETRUS.I.D.G.CONST.IMP.ET.PERP.BRAS.DEF, identifying Pedro I as Constitutional Emperor and Perpetual Defender of Brazil, rendered in raised Latin capitals along the inner toothed border. The date and Rio de Janeiro mint mark 'R' appear in the lower exergue.
