Additional information

Benin's CFA franc issues of the early 1990s were produced almost entirely for the collector export market — the country had no meaningful domestic numismatic infrastructure and contracted European mints to strike pieces that would never see a West African pocket. The 6000 francs denomination itself has no relationship to the CFA's actual monetary scale; it was engineered purely as a face-value vehicle for a silver bullion-adjacent product, priced for foreign buyers.

Benin joined the West African Economic and Monetary Union's franc zone at independence in 1960 and has issued its own collector coinage sporadically since the mid-1970s under arrangements that leave physical production entirely outside the country.
