Issued to mark the 125th anniversary of the Thai Ministry of Defence, which was established in 1870 under King Rama V as part of his sweeping modernization of Siamese state institutions. The ministry's founding was driven largely by pressure from colonial European powers encroaching on Siamese territory — a reorganized military bureaucracy was deemed essential to preserving sovereignty against French and British expansion in the region.
