Obverse description Equestrian effigy of King James VI in full armour, bearing a raised sword in his right hand and riding a caparisoned horse to the right across a plain ground line. The king wears an open helmet with visor raised, and the horse is depicted in a walking pose with elaborately detailed trappings. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal Latin legend arranged around the periphery of the field in majuscule characters separated by pellets.
