| Obverse description | The Portuguese royal coat of arms rendered in a crude, heavily stylised manner consistent with hammered colonial coinage of the period. The shield, surrounded by decorative scrollwork and armillary-sphere elements, occupies the central field. The design exhibits the characteristic low relief and irregular planchet typical of the Dio (Diu) mint production under Queen Maria I. The overall execution is rough, reflecting the primitive striking conditions of the Indian colonial mint. |
