| Additional information |
Diu, a small island settlement on the Gujarat coast, operated as one of Portuguese India's most isolated minting facilities. The 60 Réis copper pieces struck there under João VI — who spent most of this period ruling from Rio de Janeiro, having fled Lisbon ahead of Napoleon's 1807 invasion — circulated within an enclave so geographically removed from Goa that local monetary needs frequently diverged from colonial policy entirely. The absence of a KM listing reflects how thoroughly this issue fell outside the mainstream of cataloguing attention for decades.
