Oaxaca's provisional coinage of 1915–1916 was issued under Governor José Inés Dávila during the state's brief period of political autonomy from the Carranza government. The series, authorized to address a severe local currency shortage during the Mexican Revolution, produced some of the most unusual denominations in Mexican numismatic history — including the 60 Pesos, a value with no precedent in Mexican coinage before or since. This piece is a modern replica, gold-plated over a base metal core.
