Hofgastein's 60 Heller Notgeld was produced locally by F. Fuchs, a Hofgastein printer — unusual even for Austrian municipal emergency money, where most small communities contracted out to Vienna or Graz. The Gemeinde issued these notes as the postwar coinage shortage left small transactions effectively impossible; the Austrian crown's collapse in purchasing power had driven copper and nickel coins out of everyday use entirely by 1920.

The Jaksc catalog number places this within the main Salzburg provincial Notgeld series. F. Fuchs issued at least one known series for the town, though print runs for hyper-local issues like this were rarely documented.
