The 2020 Perth Mint Kookaburra in this format belongs to a bullion series that began in 1990, making it one of Australia's longest-running silver programs. The antiqued finish — a chemical patination applied post-strike — was introduced to differentiate premium collector pieces from standard bullion strikes of identical weight, allowing the Mint to command a significant premium over spot on what is otherwise the same 2 kg silver slug.
KM#3984 is among the heavier single coins in regular Perth Mint production. The 6th portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, was adopted by Australia in 2019.
