Commemorative issues from the Bank of Thailand are common enough, but this one marks something genuinely rare: Bhumibol Adulyadej completing sixty years on the throne in 2006, making him at that point the longest-reigning monarch alive. The denomination itself — 60 Baht — exists solely for this occasion and has no place in the regular circulation series.

The Canadian Bank Note Company handled production, as it did for several Thai commemoratives of this period. Security provision is limited to a watermark, modest for a note of this symbolic weight, though the issue was never intended for commercial use.
