| Reverse description | The Cross of the Order of Christ is prominently displayed at the centre of the field, rendered with detailed relief. Four decorative rosettes are placed in the angles between the arms of the cross. The peripheral motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES — the traditional Christological inscription meaning 'In this sign, thou shalt conquer' — encircles the design, with asterisks used as word separators. The composition follows the established iconographic tradition of Portuguese silver coinage of the period, emphasising the religious and dynastic symbolism of the Portuguese crown. |
