| Reverse description | St. Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg, is depicted enthroned in full face, vested in episcopal robes and holding the crozier in his right hand. He is flanked on either side by a standing lion passant, serving as heraldic supporters. A Latin circular legend naming the saint frames the composition. |

| Additional information |
Struck to commemorate the end of a plague outbreak that had ravaged Salzburg, this multiple thaler was issued under Archbishop Johann Jakob Khuen von Belasi, who held the see from 1560 until his death in 1586. Six-thaler pieces of this type were never meant for commerce — their weight alone precluded it. They were presentation objects, struck in limited numbers for diplomatic gifts and the archives of powerful recipients.
The Zöttl 588 variety distinction matters here: minor die differences within this series are well-documented, and misattribution between variants is common in the trade.
