| Obverse description | Equestrian portrait of Duke Frederick Ulrich of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in three-quarter view, depicted in full armour with a flowing cape, mounted on a prancing horse facing right. The duke raises his right arm in a commanding gesture while the horse rears dramatically over a rocky groundline decorated with small flowering plants. The entire composition is rendered in high relief with exceptional baroque detail in the treatment of the armour, horse's mane, and drapery. A beaded inner border separates the central field from the circumferential Latin legend, which reads FRIDERICUS ULRICUS DEI GRATIA DUX BRUNSVICENSIS ET LUNEB, punctuated by small rosettes. |
