Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed, fully-rigged Dutch man-of-war (clipper ship) sailing to the right upon stylized waves, its multiple masts dressed with pennants and flags rendered in high relief. The hull, rigging, and gun ports are depicted with considerable engraving skill, reflecting the maritime prominence of the Dutch Republic. The ship occupies the majority of the field, leaving a narrow exergual area below showing the wave motif. The circular legend VIGILATE DEO CONFIDENTES surrounds the design, terminating with a stop at the base, serving as the provincial motto of Holland.
