Obverse description Central crowned shield bearing the quartered arms of Gelderland — a rampant lion to the left and a rampant lion to the right in the respective quarters — with the denomination numeral '6' to the left of the shield and the letter 'S' to the right, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The shield is surmounted by an ornate crown typical of Dutch provincial coinage of the late seventeenth century. The peripheral legend in Latin runs around the outer field, identifying the issuing authority as the Duchy of Gelderland and County of Zutphen. The overall style is characteristic of the hammered silver coinage produced by the Dutch provincial mints of this period.
