Reverse description The reverse of the host 8 Reales displays the Pillars of Hercules design characteristic of the Mexican pillar coinage, with two crowned columns rising from stylised waves, each bearing a crown. Between the columns is the crowned royal cypher 'GR' counterstamp applied by the Jamaican colonial authorities, overlying the original globes-and-waves motif. The circumferential legend reads VTRAQUE VNUM, with the mint mark 'Mo' flanking the lower field and the date 1744 inscribed in the exergue, separated by floral rosette stops.
