Obverse description Central device depicts the Hanoverian white horse passant to the right, rendered in relief atop a ground line with small stones or mounds beneath. The horse, a traditional heraldic symbol of the House of Hanover, is shown with flowing mane and tail, forelegs raised in a prancing posture. The Latin motto NEC ASPERA TERRENT (difficulties do not deter) arcs around the upper periphery as the obverse legend. The mint mark B, denoting the Hannover Mint, appears at the bottom of the field below the ground line. The entire design is framed by a finely beaded inner border.
