Obverse description Central field dominated by the interlaced ducal cypher 'FJ' (for Francis Josias) in an elaborate baroque monogram composed of foliate scrollwork and ornamental flourishes. The cypher is surmounted by a ducal crown with arched bands and orb finial, rendered in the high-baroque decorative style characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century German state coinage. The entire design is contained within a milled border.

Reverse description Central imperial orb bearing the Roman numeral 'VI' denoting the denomination, with the mintmaster's initials flanking the orb in the field. The date is divided across the lower field on either side of the orb. A curved legend arching above the orb identifies the issuing authority of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, the whole composition enclosed within a milled border.
