| Obverse description | The heraldic rearing horse of Brunswick leaps to the left within the central field, depicted in high relief with flowing mane and tail. The horse stands above a ground line, beneath which the mintmaster initials I·D·B appear in the exergue. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading CAROLVS.D.G.D.B.ET.L I.D.B, identifying the ruler as Charles I, Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg, by the grace of God. |
