Obverse description Central field displays the civic arms of Soest: a vertically oriented key, the traditional symbol of the city, rendered in relief within a plain field. The circumferential legend reads SVSATENSIS, identifying the issuing city of Soest, separated by punctuation marks. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hammered copper coinage of the early seventeenth century.
