Additional information

Münster's copper small change of this period emerged directly from the chaos following the Kipper- und Wipperzeit's early rumblings — municipal authorities across Westphalia were increasingly forced to produce low-denomination fiduciary coinage as silver fled into hoarding. The city's right to strike such pieces rested on privileges dating to its role as a Hanseatic member, though that membership was already commercially fraying by 1602.

Weingärtner's Westfälische Münzgeschichte remains the standard reference for attributing these civic coppers, and the KM#305 assignment places this cleanly within Münster's documented municipal series.
