Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of King James I facing right, wearing an arched crown and ruffled collar, rendered in the bold relief characteristic of early Stuart hammered coinage. The effigy is encircled by a beaded inner border, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery. A mint mark appears above the crown at the commencement of the legend. The portrait, though stylized, conveys regal authority typical of the Tower Mint's Irish issue dies of this period.
