Reverse description The quartered Royal Arms of Great Britain, surmounted by the Imperial State Crown, occupy the centre of the field, engraved by Jean Baptiste Merlen. The shield is quartered with the three lions passant guardant of England (quarters one and four), the lion rampant of Scotland (quarter two), and the harp of Ireland (quarter three), with the escutcheon of Hanover at the centre bearing the crown of Charlemagne. The shield is flanked by ornate foliate scrollwork and the floral emblems of the United Kingdom: a thistle at upper left, an oak sprig at lower left, a shamrock at upper right, and a Tudor rose flanked by oak leaves at the base. The date legend ANNO 1821 is inscribed in the field, ANNO to the left and 1821 to the right, within a toothed border.
