Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing left, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, with finely rendered hair detail. The portrait is rendered in high relief with a naturalistic, unidealized style typical of Paget's work. The engraver's initials 'HP' appear small in the field below the truncation. The Latin legend EDWARDVS VIII D : G : BR : OMN : REX runs around the periphery, interrupted by the portrait. A beaded border encircles the design.
