Reverse description A quartered royal shield of arms — displaying the fleurs-de-lis of France in the first and fourth quarters and the lions passant guardant of England in the second and third quarters — superimposed over a long cross fourchée whose ornamental terminals extend to the beaded inner circle, dividing the field into four sections. The shield is rendered with fine detail typical of third-coinage hammered silver. A circular Latin legend reading CIVI TAS EBO RACI (City of York) surrounds the design between the inner beaded circle and the outer toothed rim, confirming the York mint attribution.
