Obverse description Diamond-shaped lozenge flan with a beaded border along all four edges. At centre, a large royal crown is depicted in relief, rendered in a bold, simplified style characteristic of Civil War siege coinage. The crowned initials 'C' and 'R' (Carolus Rex) flank the crown to the left and right respectively, while the denomination numeral 'VI' appears in the lower field beneath the crown. The design is struck on an irregular hand-cut silver planchet, reflecting the exigencies of the Newark siege.
