Obverse description Crowned and armored bust of Karl IX facing right, wearing a regal crown and draped mantle with armor visible at the shoulder. The legend CAROLVS IX encircles the effigy within a beaded border, with the Hebrew Tetragrammaton (Jehovah) rendered above the crown as a divine invocation. The portrait is rendered in the late Renaissance style typical of Swedish hammered gold coinage of the early seventeenth century.
