Obverse description Central field features the crowned royal cipher of Johan III, composed of an interlaced gothic 'I' and 'M' monogram beneath a royal crown, flanked by ornate foliate or feather-like mantling. The denomination mark '6 M' appears within the field. The circumferential legend in Latin reads IOHANNES·3·D·G·SVE·GOT·VAN·REX, identifying the king as Johann III, by the grace of God King of Sweden, the Goths, and the Wends. The design is rendered in the hammered style typical of late sixteenth-century Scandinavian gold coinage.
