| Additional information |
Leopold I came to the throne in 1658 after the death of his elder brother Ferdinand IV left the Habsburg succession unexpectedly open. The early years of his reign were consumed by war with the Ottomans and the financial strain of maintaining garrisons along the Hungarian frontier — pressures that drove the Imperial Mint to produce subsidiary silver in quantity. The 6 Kreuzer denomination served the everyday commercial economy that larger talers could not efficiently reach.
Herinek documents at least six die varieties across this five-year window, reflecting the volume and pace of production at Vienna during the period.
