Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Leopold I facing right, portrayed with flowing long hair and prominent features characteristic of the Habsburg physiognomy. The emperor is shown in armour with a lace cravat visible at the neck. The bust is set within a beaded inner border, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery reading LEOPOLDVS · D · G · R · I · S · A · G · H · B · REX · (Leopold, by the Grace of God, King of the Romans, ever Augustus, of Germany, Hungary and Bohemia). The portrait is executed in a vigorous Baroque style typical of late 17th-century Hungarian coinage.
