| Reverse description | The reverse features a central cartouche containing a multi-line funerary inscription in German and Latin recording the birth and death details of Margrave Joachim Ernst: born at Cologne on 27 June 1583, died at Onolzbach (Ansbach) on 25 February 1625, having reigned 22 years. At the base of the central tablet, within an oval frame, appears the denomination mark VI. K. (6 Kreuzer). A circumferential Latin legend surrounds the central field, reading DEO ET PATRIAE VIXIT ET OBIIT, meaning 'He lived and died for God and the Fatherland.' The overall composition is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German memorial coinage. |
