Additional information

Ferdinand I inherited the Austrian lands from his brother Charles V in 1521 — though "inherited" understates the political engineering involved, as Charles retained Spain and the Low Countries while Ferdinand was handed a territorially fractured, Ottoman-pressured inheritance that included an active war front. Suleiman the Magnificent's forces were pushing hard through Hungary during precisely these years, and the 6 Kreuzer denominations issued from Vienna reflect emergency fiscal demands as much as routine minting.

The Markl range 94–103 covers die variants across the decade, and collectors working this series find meaningful differences in mintmaster marks within that spread.
