Obverse description A highly detailed, ultra-high-relief portrait of a Black Lizard (Podarcis melisellensis melisellensis) dominates the obverse field, rendered in dramatic sculptural relief with its head and forebody emerging prominently toward the viewer. The textured scales of the reptile are rendered with exceptional naturalistic precision, set against a finely engraved wave-pattern background field. The legend REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA arcs along the upper left periphery, while the denomination 6 EURO appears at the upper right and CRNA GUŠTERICA curves along the lower right, all in Latin characters.

Additional information

Croatia adopted the euro on January 1, 2023, replacing the kuna after thirty-one years of independence. This issue belongs to the early wave of Croatian euro-denominated collector coinage — a category that didn't exist before that accession date. The six-euro denomination has no circulation equivalent anywhere in the eurozone and exists purely as a collector vehicle permitted under ECB rules governing national commemorative issues.

The black lizard (*Lacerta trilineata*) is native to the Dalmatian coast and its offshore islands.
