| Obverse description | Conjoined half-length busts of the two co-ruling dukes, Johann Christian and Georg Rudolf, facing one another at center, each armored and wearing elaborate lace ruffs, their facing profiles rendered in fine detail. The elder duke appears at left, the younger at right, both depicted with curled hair in the Baroque court fashion of the early seventeenth century. A beaded inner border frames the field, with the Latin legend divided around the periphery reading D.G. IOHAN. CHRIST. ET. GEORG. RVD. FRA., attributing the rulers by the grace of God. The composition is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of large Silesian multiple-ducat presentation pieces of the period. |
