| Additional information |
Bozzolo was among the smallest and most financially precarious of the Mantuan satellite lordships, and large gold multiples from its mint were almost certainly struck as presentation pieces rather than circulating currency. Scipione Gonzaga ruled the tiny enclave under imperial sufferance, and coins of this weight and metal functioned primarily as diplomatic gifts and court largesse — physical demonstrations of dynastic legitimacy for a family whose actual political leverage was minimal.
At 39+ grams, surviving examples are extremely rare in any condition. The denomination itself, a 6 doppie, places it among the heaviest gold issues from any of the minor Gonzaga branches.
