Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Ferdinand I, Duke of Mantua, facing right, wearing a high ruff collar and richly engraved pauldrons, with a full beard rendered in fine detail. The effigy is executed in high relief in the Baroque manner, conveying regal authority and martial character. The circular Latin legend is divided by the portrait, with the date 1616 appearing in the lower field below the truncation. A beaded inner border frames the composition.
