Meera Bai, the 16th-century Rajput poet-saint whose devotional compositions remain among the most sung bhajans in the Hindu tradition, spent much of her life in open defiance of royal convention — rejecting widowhood constraints, consorting with wandering holy men, and ultimately abandoning the Mewar court altogether. Her death date and even her final location are genuinely disputed; hagiographic accounts place her last years at Dwarka, where she is said to have merged with the deity she spent her life addressing in verse.
India's commemorative rupee program has issued coins at unusual face values — 75, 100, 350 — tying denomination directly to anniversary number. This 525-rupee piece follows that same logic.
